The Isamu Noguchi Catalogue Raisonné project considers “artworks” to be those works conceived of and created by Isamu Noguchi during the artist’s lifetime as part of his artistic practice.
Artworks included in the present scope of research and currently published or scheduled for publication in the digital Isamu Noguchi Catalogue Raisonné comprise the following categories:
- Discrete three-dimensional objects, both sculptural and utilitarian
- Environments composed of multi-element arrangements
- Individual objects, cast, manufactured, or otherwise fabricated, as part of an edition or production size totaling 12 or fewer in quantity
- Design concepts for objects, cast, manufactured, or otherwise fabricated as part of an edition or production size totaling 13 or more in quantity
- Preparatory models indicated as a formal artwork by the artist (e.g. through exhibition, casting, sale, etc.)
- Works on paper indicated as a formal artwork by the artist
- Reproductions of original artworks, made by or authorized by the artist during his lifetime
- Artworks partially reconstructed by the artist during his lifetime, with information on the original and altered states
- Artworks designed by the artist, and fabricated by others in accordance with the artist’s instructions or designs
- Artworks believed lost or destroyed, when there is adequate documentation of the artwork's original state
